22 individuals have been displaced after an early morning fire at Ile Des Cannes Apartments in Lafayette Parish.

The Scott Fire Department says that Lafayette deputies, while patrolling the apartments at around 2:30 am Friday, November 16, 2018, noticed fire coming from the roof of a four-plex in the 100 block of Windward Street. Deputies began alerting and evacuating the occupants of the affected complex.

All civilians were able to safely escape.  Scott Fire Department was dispatched to the incident.

Officials say heavy fire coming from the windows and roofs of the two center apartments. After several minutes, firefighters were unable to bring the fire under control, causing the roof to collapse, due to the amount of fire located in the structure.

Addition tankers were also requested to transport water to the scene from the city limits of Scott and after several minutes, the fire was extinguished

The fire is believed to be accidental in nature; however, the combination of the amount of fire and a collapsed roof prohibited investigators from determining an exact cause.

No firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the incident.  The structure is a total loss.

Officials say that 22 people are displaced as a result of the incident.
