Woman’s body found following three day search of Red River

The Alexandria Police Department has found the body of a woman following a search of the Red River.

Officers say that at approximately 3:00 pm, Tuesday, October 16, 2018, the agencies searching the Red River located a body in the river, about 500 yards south of the Purple Heart Bridge. The body is believed to be of the woman who reportedly jumped from the Jackson Street Bridge early Sunday morning.

Crews were in the third day of the search on the river.

The identity of the body is not being released and the investigation will continue into the events leading to her death.

Sunday afternoon a man’s body was recovered from the same area. The identity of that body has not yet been confirmed.  The body was found a mile down river, near Willow Glen Road, and inside the city limits.

The man, police say was believed to be an elderly, white male. There are no indications that his body is related to the possible attempted suicide.
