Police: Thibodaux man blocks traffic, under influence of marijuana, other drugs

A Thibodaux man was arrested Tuesday evening after police say he was found unconscious in his vehicle causing a back up of traffic on the highway.

Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue says that 31-year-old of Zachary Norris Jr. of Thibodaux was arrested on charges of D.W.I – first offense, possession of marijuana second offense, possession of methamphetamine, possession of Xanax, possession of drug paraphernalia and simple obstruction of a highway of commerce.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at around 4:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of an unconscious driver slumped over the steering wheel at the intersection of Highway 308 and North Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux. Upon arrival, officers say they observed a driver, identified as Zachary Norris, unconscious at the wheel with the vehicle in drive and his foot on the brake. Traffic had backed up in the area due to rush hour.

Police say Norris was asked to exit his vehicle at which time officers say they could smell the odor of suspected marijuana and observed suspected marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle. Norris also allegedly showed obvious signs of impairment and admitted to smoking marijuana hours prior.

He was arrested for suspicion of D.W.I and later transported to the Thibodaux Police Department. Norris’ vehicle as also searched where Thibodaux Police say they found more suspected marijuana, Xanax pills, methamphetamine and assorted drug paraphernalia including a marijuana grinder.

Norris was charged transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center for booking. His bond was set at  $5,900.
