St. Landry Parish is continuing its Smooth Ride Home Program. Roads are being paved and repaired in the parish.

Four years after that project began, some drivers are complaining that the work isn’t happening fast enough.

Getting around parts of Saint Landry Parish can be a hassle, especially on gravel roads like “Nonc Lol Road” near Arnaudville.

“It’s bad all over,” Boz Lanerie said. Lanerie lives near the area and says he’s waiting to see improvements.

Parish President Bill Fontenot says the Smooth Ride Home Project began four years ago. Since then, nearly 320 miles of roads have been paved and another 450 miles are left to go.

“It’s a fact that some roads will not be reached until that final year because it’s a 15 year program,” Fontenot said.

Until then, Fontenot says the parish is buying new graders to maintain the gravel roads until they can be paved. Fontenot says about 280 gravel roads will be maintained to keep them in good condition.
