A recall has been issued by the USDA on approximately 132,606 pounds of ground beef products processed and packaged by Cargill Meat Solutions.
The ground beef comes from the chuck portion of the carcass and officials say it may be contaminated with E coli.
Contaminated products were packaged on June 21 and have the establishment number ” EST. 86R.” The USDA says these ground beef products were shipped nationwide.
The recall stems from the investigation into 17 illnesses and one death that the USDA says originated from contaminated beef supplied by Cargill Meat Solutions. Those cases were reported between July 5 and July 25 and officials say the products were purchased from various retail stores across the country.
The recall alert was issued because officials are concerned that some of the products may still be in consumers’ freezers. Those who purchased the product are urged to not consume them and to either throw the meat away or return it to the place of purchase.
