The town of Church Point has won a FEMA grant to help prevent flooding at the town’s sewer plant.

Mayor Russell Stelly said the FEMA grant of $86,821.80 is being supplemented by another $10,000 from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security. He’s also working with another agency for matching funds for the project, he said.

Todd Richard, the town’s flood plain administrator, got the paperwork together to ask FEMA for help in paying for the flood prevention project, Stelly said. The plant flooded during the August 2016 floods, he said.

The effort to obtain matching funds is “in the works,” and Stelly said he has a meeting about it next week. Stelly said he’d like to get started on the project as soon as possible.
