The Military Order of the Purple Heart is holding their 86th National Convention in Spokane, WA this week, and three members from Acadiana are attending.

In a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, the Purple Heart recipients at the convention saluted the fallen patriots of the Korean War.

55 boxes of the remains from the Korean War were brought to Hawaii for identification.

The return of the remains has special significance for the veterans at the convention.

"Those servicemen, and if there are any women, those servicewomen deserve the highest honors we could bestow upon Americans. They also are Purple Heart recipients, so that’s a common bond, it’s a common thread, you know we share all the same blood. And, that’s something that can’t be taken away from us," said Louisiana Department Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Ronald Crowley explained.
