Broussard Police holding awareness training at Broussard Middle

Posted

Broussard Police says they will be holding awareness training next week at Broussard Middle School.

Officials say that on Monday, August 6, 2018, beginning at 8:00 am Broussard Police will be doing awareness training at Broussard Middle School. During that training, police officers will safely discharge several gunshots using blank rounds to familiarize educators with the sounds and smell of gunshots.

The training is expected to last about 1 hour.  Barricades will be placed on the entrance and exits to the school along with a marked unit and officer monitoring the area.  Safety measures will be taken to not allowing any weapons or ammo in the building as well.

The training, officials say, will familiarize educators of the sounds and smell of gunshots, so that there can be some awareness and recognition of danger and to compare this sound to other like noises such as vehicle backfire or transformer malfunctions.

Officers will be going through the school checking classrooms to make sure the teachers are following their lockdown protocol. No students will be on campus during the training.
