Three candidates who qualified to run for Aldermen of Opelousas have withdrawn their candidacies.

Joe Effinger, Charlie Manuel and Gina Rideau have all withdrawn their candidacies from the District C alderman race.

Derrick Comeaux, another candidate in the race, filed a challenge to their candidacies. A hearing was held in court today.

The Secretary of State’s Office website has Rideau’s candidacy marked as "withdrawn."

The deadline to withdraw from the November election was last week. If the paperwork wasn’t received by the deadline, the candidates’ names will still be on the ballot when voters go to the polls in November.

KATC TV3 was the only station in today’s hearing, we’ll have more tonight.

Also remaining on the ballot with Comeaux are Charles Cummings and Theresa Thibodeaux.
