Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury has issued a state of emergency in the parish due to extremely dry weather. With that proclamation, a parish-wide burn ban is to take effect immediately.

A statement from the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury says the ban will be instated for 30 days.

The burning of trash and vegetation, as well as any other open burning, will be prohibited. All planned burns are to be reported to the Sheriff’s office or E911 prior to burning, according to the Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office.

"There is also imposed an immediate thirty(30) day ban on the use, discharge, or ignition of any and all projectile fireworks, including but not limited to bottle/stick rockets, missiles, roman candles, or any and all cylinder-launched devices, in all unincorporated areas of Jefferson Davis Parish with the exception of any public fireworks displays presented through permit by the appropriate state and/or local agencies," a statement reads.
