On Tuesday, the Lafayette City-Parish Council will hear from Mayor Joel Robideaux about hisefforts to negotiate a management-sale of the Lafayette Utilities System. Several council members told KATC they heard about his plans by reading local media. He was invited to explain at Tuesday’s meeting of the Lafayette Public Utilities Authority; the meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in the City-Parish Council Chambers. 

On Wednesday, the Silverbacks Improv Theatre will present a shot at 7:30 p.m. at the Omni Center, 227 Jefferson Street in downtown Lafayette. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the door. The show will feature the troupe’s signature improvisations – a blend of short, high-energy games followed by a one-act improvised play. The Omni Center’s art market and bar will be open.  

On Thursday, Vermilionville’s Summer Institute: Mange a Celebration of Foodways begins. It’s a professional development opportunity designed to introduce teachers to the use of culturally relevant foodways through a variety of sources of historic and folklife information, as well as sources of inspiration for creative and engaging learning endeavors in the classroom. Sessions are from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. It’s free, but preregistration is required. On Friday, Acadiana Repertory Theatre begins its run of "The Insidious Impact of Anton" by David Hilder. The play, which will be presented at Cite des Arts in downtown Lafayette, runs through August 4. The play is a comedy about a woman who meets a mysterious stranger. He keeps turning up, and odd things start happening. For more info, click here.
