Two families lost everything in house fires: You can help

Two families in St. Landry Parish lost everything in house fires recently need help.

The Port Barre Police Department is taking donations for the two families, one in Port Barre and one in Melville. The Melville Police Department is also accepting donations for the Melville family. 

The Port Barre family needs the following: 

  • Monetary donations to purchase personal items and school uniforms and supplies
  • Food
  • Hygiene products
  • Furniture (PBPD is working on this and will update when the family is ready to accept)

Clothing: 

  • Boy age 6 wears 4T
  • Boy age 3 wears 3T
  • Girl age 5 wears size 4
  • Women mid 20s small shirt and size 1 
  • Woman late 50s unsure of size
  • Male medium shirt and size 30×32 pants

All donations can be dropped off at the Port Barre Police Department located at 498 Saizan Ave, Port Barre, La. 

The family in Melville has need for the following: 

  • Gift cards or monetary donations for personal items & food
  • Size 24 women’s pants/shorts gently used or new 
  • Size 2X to 3X women’s shirts gently used or new
  • Size 8 to 81/2 women’s shoes
  • Pajama’s / Night Gowns – 3X
  • Food 

All donations can be dropped off to Chief Anthony Moreau at the Melville Police Department located at 516 church street, Melville La or the Port Barre Police Department located at 498 Saizan Ave, Port Barre, La.
