A Moss Bluff man died Friday evening after another driver allegedly failed to yield at a stop sign, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers say the two-vehicle crash happened Friday, June 22, 2018, just after 5:00 p.m., on Louisiana Highway 3059 at Luke Powers Road in Calcasieu Parish. That crash involved a motorcycle and another vehicle.

According to a release, an investigation revealed that the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling north on Luke Powers Road and stopped at the stop sign at LA 3059. That vehicle traveled into the path of a 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling east on LA 3059.  The motorcycle driver, 29-year-old Peter McCarthy of Moss Bluff, “laid down” his motorcycle in an attempt to avoid a collision.

McCarthy was seriously injured and was transported to an area hospital where he later died. Troopers report that he was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.

The Honda then traveled into the ditch on the north side of LA 3059. The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. That person has been charged with failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

Impairment is not suspected and the crash remains under investigation.
