The Beta Club program at Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy is only two years old, but its members aren’t letting any grass grow under their feet.

The students recently attended the National Convention in Savannah, Ga. and placed in several events.

In the Tower of Power contest – a challenge where the students must build a tower out of household items that meets certain specifications – the team came in eighth nationally.

"I feel like Beta is really prestigious, its an honor to be in Beta," said Garrett Adams, captain of the team. "Its all about community service and how you can help other people in your community, and its a club that pushes to you to be the best person that you can be."

Member Hope Gutierrez placed second in sixth grade science competition and David Gutierrez placed first in eighth grade social studies competition.

Also on the Tower of Power team with Adams are  Dylan Thevenot, Cole Miller, Evan Richard and Drayke Soileau.
