Neighbors ask questions following stun-gun death in Carencro

Posted

State Police are investigating the death of a man who was shot with a stun-gun by Carencro police last week.

It happened around 10:30 pm last Wednesday night on Rampart Street between Pamela and Guilbeau streets.

The deceased is identified as Nathaniel McCoy.

Troydell Simmons was McCoy’s neighbor. He says he went outside Wednesday night after seeing police light and saw McCoy unconscious on the ground.

"The dude was lying on the ground, no clothes on, handcuffs behind his back, they even had his legs tied. The dude wasn’t even moving, lying on the grass butt naked. The Taser was still connected to him. The officer still had the Taser gun in his hand," said Simmons.

Earlier that night, Simmons says he had an encounter with McCoy who was passed out in a ditch.

"I start calling my name out to him. I’m like bro, it’s me bro! I’m like look at me, so when he notices it was me. I’m like c’mon! I’m like c’mon, I got ya! I grab him I drug him out of the ditch."

Simmons says he thinks McCoy was under the influence.

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

KATC Investigates has found that McCoy had previous run-ins with Carencro Police. In 2013, McCoy pleaded guilty to resisting a Carencro Police Officer during an arrest.

Carencro Police say different officers worked those cases.
