The Morgan City Police Department arrested a woman on Wednesday after two young children were found walking alone on LA 182 in the city.
The department says that motorist passing on LA 182 saw the two children, aged 4 and 2, walking along the roadway around 11:00 pm. Officers investigating the incident learned that the children were staying at a nearby motel. Police say when they arrived at the motel they located a 10-month-old child unattended in the room.
A neighbor, identified as Latasha J. Wolf, told police that she came out of her room and saw that the children were left unsupervised with the door to the room open.
Police learned through an investigation that the mother of the children had been called into work at 8:00 pm and that she had allegedly paid Wolf to watch them. Police uncovered evidence that proved the mother had paid Wolf to babysit. Police say they also discovered marijuana in the room after a safety sweep.
Wolf was arrested and booked charges of Child Desertion. Police say that mother of the children was also arrested and booked on charges of possession of marijuana and other drug charges.
The Department of Children and Family Services were contacted and the children were released into the care of a family member.
