A local man has been indicted, accused of raping a child.
Benjamin Matthew Elledge, 40, is accused of raping someone between 1992 and 1997. At the time, the victim was between 9 and 14 years old.
Elledge was indicted on a charge of felony aggravated rape of a juvenile. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole, probation or suspension of sentence and a maximum possible sentence of death.
Elledge was arrested in November and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a charge of first-degree rape, records show. He’s not currently in the jail, but a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
