State Police say they are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA 87 in St. Mary Parish on Monday.

Troopers say that 87-year-old Lenis Clements of Charenton was killed on Monday after attempting to cross LA 87 from Ache-Clement Road. Troopers say that Clements’ vehicle was struck by a 2011 Nissan Altima traveling southbound on LA 87.

Troopers say that Clements was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Clements was transported to Franklin Foundation Hosptial where troopers say he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. They were transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital for treatment.

According to troopers, impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis.

Troopers say the driver of the second vehicle was driving with a suspended license.
