Eunice is getting new park playground equipment and splash pads in different locations.

Circle Park will be getting that new playground equipment thanks to a donation from the New Hope Fellowship Church.

The splash pads will be located at the Old Fairgrounds Park and at the former Amy Swimming Pool. Money from Cleco is helping fund the splash pads.

While construction is continuing for those additions, children and teens are taking full advantage of Circle Park.

It’s one of the few places where they can hang out during the summer.

Ashley Richard and her little brother are frequent visitors to the park.

"Pretty much everyday," Richard explained, about how often she visits the area.

Soon, they’ll have more places to spend the dog days of summer. Crews are installing a new splash pad just down the road at the old fairgrounds park.

Another is being installed across town at the Old Amy Swimming Pool.

"They will both be ready by the end of this summer," Mayor Scott Fontenot said. "It’s going to be something really nice. Something that we can be proud of."

He added,  "There’s not much do in the summer time when schools out. Instead of giving kids the opportunity of doing something mischievous, we’re giving them something positive to do."

Back at Circle Park, the city will be putting in new swings, slides and other equipment in the next month.

The mission of these projects, is to end blight in parts of the city.

"We’ve been attacking all these areas, that’s kind of been neglected for some time," Fontenot said.

Richard and her brother say, they certainly won’t neglect the splash pads.

"That would be awesome. It’s hot too. It would be cool. It would be less hot. Give kids something to do and stay out of trouble."
