Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and members of the healthcare community gathered in Baton Rouge for a press conference and rally on the funding of hospitals around the state.

Employees from UHC joined healthcare professionals from across the state to listen to the governor’s address this morning. Lafayette General Health recently announced that cuts to healthcare made by the Louisiana Legislature would cause 800 employees to lose their jobs and the doors of the facility to close.

A special session to find a solution to the funding of several state services and functions currently under deep cuts began yesterday. $1.4 billion in temporary revenue funding services like TOPS and several healthcare services will end if lawmakers do not find a solution by June 30.

Healthcare employees will hold a rally at 2:00 pm today in the Rotunda at the Louisiana State Capitol. The governor will join the group to advocate for a responsible, bipartisan solution to the fiscal cliff.
