Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in connection with a shooting in Turkey Creek on Sunday.
John Isaac Foret was booked with impeding a witness and is being held in the parish jail without bond at this time, a spokesman said.
Deputies received information Sunday that a material witness in the shooting was being coerced into hiding at a Ville Platte home. The witness, who is not being identified for their safety, was not being held as a hostage. Instead, deputies allege, the witness was being intimidated into staying at the home by Foret.
Deputies got an arrest warrant for Foret and a search warrant for the home, and found the witness there. The witness was taken into protective custody, deputies say.
Deputies identified the victim in the shooting as Edwin Wesley Snoddy, who died at the scene after he was shot during an argument. They identified the man he was arguing with as Foret. Deputies say Foret left the scene but waited nearby for law enforcement to arrive. He was questioned, but said he wanted to speak to his attorney. Deputies said they released Foret "until more is learned."
