A man is facing a simple arson charge after fire investigators say he intentionally set a vacant building on fire twice in little over a week.

Lafayette firefighters responded to the fire in the 400 block of Guidry Road and found light smoke coming from the building.

The fire was contained to a mattress and rubbish inside the building. It was quickly extinguished, according to a spokesman for the fire department.

David Paul Olienyk, 44, who was said to be on the scene when firefighters arrived, is accused of setting both fires.

Olienyk was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
