Railroad crossings in New Iberia will soon look different.
Five railroad crossings will be getting gates and new lights. The crossings at Weeks, Julia, Iberia, Providence and French streets will get the upgrades, according to DOTD. The project first must focus on obtaining rights-of-way. Some of the projects already are on the DOTD schedule for this year.
"Iberia, weeks, Julia, Providence, it’s all gonna be done," said Iberia City Councilman David Broussard. "So every arm and light will he put up at every crossing we have. We will close one or two but we have it pretty well under control. In 2-3 years safety will be in new Iberia. Of all the railroad tracks with arms and lights."
