The legacy of healing and family-centered care established by the late Kathy Bobbs will continue in her memory in the Healing Garden at Women’s & Children’s Hospital, a release from the facility states.
Bobbs, president and chief executive officer of Women’s & Children’s for the past 18 years, passed away unexpectedly on April 21. On Tuesday, the hospital announced it would make a donation to the Kites Above Acadiana Kids Fund to have the fund’s initial project, the Healing Garden at Women’s & Children’s Hospital, bear her name.
“There are just no words to say,” said Judy Dunn, chair of the Kites Above Acadiana fundraising committee. “The news is so bittersweet. But, it’s proof that God can transform such profound pain and loss into something so beautiful that will foster healing and comfort for countless families for generations to come.”
Kites Above Acadiana Kids Fund through the Community Foundation of Acadiana impacts hospitalized children and their families through play, education and housing. The Healing Garden at Women’s & Children’s will feature wheelchair and IV pole-accessible pathways, an interactive play space including a stage for performances, space for reflection and meditation and a fountain with artwork from renowned artist Vergie Banks as the centerpiece.
The project is expected to cost $650,000 and take nine months to complete. Multiple sponsorship and other donation opportunities are available.
