Man arrested after pursuit near South Street Elementary in Opelousas

The Opelousas Marshal’s Office has arrested a man after a short pursuit near South Street Elementary School. 

Officers say they observed a suspicious vehicle Tuesday afternoon on the corner of Jefferson and Union Street. After an attempted traffic stop, the driver allegedly attempted to evade officer by bailing out of the vehicle on Union Street. 

After a short foot pursuit, officers say they arrested the driver identified as Lamen J Jimmerson. He was taken into custody and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail. According to the Marshal’s Office, Jimmerson was wanted by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office on other warrants

During the incident, the deputy on scene requested backup to secure the area around South Street Elementary. 

The vehicle, according to deputies, was being operated without insurance or valid inspection sticker.  Jimmerson was also allegedly operating under a suspended DL, citations were issued and the vehicle was towed.
