SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Federal officials say a Louisiana fuel distribution company involved in hurricane recovery efforts in Puerto Rico has complied with orders to pay $1.15 million in back wages to 219 workers.
The U.S. Department of Labor said in an April 11 news release that Macro Companies Inc. was accused of violating federal overtime, fringe benefits and record keeping provisions. Officials said the Broussard-based company paid workers a fixed salary every day regardless of the number of hours worked.
Macro Companies Inc. did not immediately return a message for comment.
