The polling places for two precincts of more than 2,000 voters in Lafayette Parish will be moved for the April 28 election because of a scheduling conflict.
Precinct 39 and 40 will not be held at LITE, 537 Cajun Dome Blvd., Lafayette, instead, it will be held at Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA), 211 E Devalcourt St, Lafayette.
"The legislation makes election dates years in advance and the voting locations were sent notices in advance so the tenants can use their building when there is no election," said according to Charlene Meaux-Menard, Registrar of Voters. "The lecturer changed the voting dates last year. LITE had booked it for an event and when they were notified there was a conflict."
There are 152,056 registered voters in Lafayette Parish. In Precinct 39 there are 1,576 registered voters and 844 in Precinct 40, stated to Meaux-Menard.
The election date was originally scheduled for another date and it was changed to April so there would be no election during the summer, stated Meaux-Menard.
Polls are opened form 7:00 am until 8:00 pm. this Saturday.
