Abbeville Police are investigating a shooting death that happened at about 2 a.m. Monday.
Douglas Bourque, 38, of Kaplan, was found laying in the middle of East Vermilion Street with several gunshot wounds. Officers started CPR, then medics arrived, and Bourque was transported to Abbeville General, then airlifted to Lafayette General. Bourque underwent surgery, but he died from his injuries, police say.
Police initially were called to the intersection of Graceland Avenue and Hawthorne Street; they found Bourque after searching the area. After investigating the shooting, detectives now believe that two men were involved in an argument with Bourque, which led to the shooting. Two people were seen running from the shooting, police say.
