A new U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana is now in office.

President Donald Trump nominated David Joseph on February 16, 2018, and the U.S. Senate confirmed his nomination March 22, 2018.

Prior to his nomination, he was a white-collar crime prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

"My recent focus has been on public corruption that’s still going to be a major focus for me," said Joseph. "We got projected to the world that Louisiana is a great place to live and it’s a great place to make business. We have to demand the best from our public officials. If they are trying to line their own pocketbooks, then we are going to be looking at them."

Joseph says his first priority is to make communities in his district safer.

"We have to reduce violent crime in the district," said Joseph.  "Look, we are not prosecuting cases to fill prisons up. We are not prosecuting cases just to punish criminals. That’s part of it, but that’s not why we are doing it. We are doing it to reduce crime to take bad people off the streets and out of our communities."
