Mardi Gras comes to Grand Marais

The Grand Marais Mardi Gras parade rolled in Iberia Parish.

Revelers gathered at at 11:00 am in Grad Marais for the parade but they have been celebrating for almost a full month.

The krewe held costume contests each weekend leading up to the parade. The younger generation was included in this years celebrations in hopes they will help carry on the tradition.

“I hope that they learn that this is family tradition, this is passed down from many generations and something we truly love. We try to make sure they love it all too. It’s good, clean family fun and we’re all in it together,” said Tina Olivier of the Grand Marais Mardi Gras Association.

Richard Williams Sr. said he comes to this parade every year.

“We come out here to Mardi Gras every year,” Williams said. “This is a good environment. This is Grand Marais Louisiana. They throw a nice Mardi Gras parade every year.”

Jeffrey and Karen Landry came all the way from El Paso for the festivities.

“The people, the food, I love the people the food, they’ve been nothing but friendly and the colors. I love the colors of the parade,” Karen Landry said.
