The Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival has selected their King and Queen for this year’s Mardi Gras season.
The 61st King and Queen are Carl Simon and Paris Dominique LeRoux Rubin. Their identities were revealed to the public at the annual Pageant and Ball on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019.
Dr. Brent Rochon will serve as Grand Marshal for the Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival Parade on Mardi Gras day, March 5. The parade rolls at 1:00 p.m.

King Toussaint L’Ouverture LXI is Mr. Carl Simon. Carl is the 7th of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sterling Simon, Sr. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School and graduated from Northside High School. He attended The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana State University at Shreveport and Spellman College. He has received Bachelor’s degrees in Elementary English, and Middle and Secondary English, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
Queen Suzanne Simonne’ LXI is Miss Paris Dominique LeRoux Rubin. Paris is the daughter of Rosalyn and Michael Rubin, Jr. She is a graduate of Northside High School. She was Vice President of her class, Link Crew Head Commissioner, Co-Captain of the Dance Starz, and member of the Law Academy, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. She was the 2016 Lady Viking of They Year and was also a cum laude graduate. She is also a graduate of Aveda Institute and is an esthetician certified in eyelash extensions, dermaplaning, microneedling, chemical peels, oxygen facials, and dermabrasion.
Parade Grand Marshal—Dr. Brent Rochon, M.D. will serve as the 2019 Parade Grand Marshal for Lafayette Mardi
Gras Festival, Inc. Dr. Rochon was born and raised in Lafayette, LA and is the son of Lloyd Rochon and Eva Dell (Melancon) Rochon. He attended Holy Family, St. Genevieve, and Teurlings Catholic Schools, and graduated from Acadiana High School. Dr. Rochon received his B.S. degree in Biology from Xavier University and his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He is Cardiology Director at Franklin Foundation Hospital, cardiac intensivist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, team doctor and Medical Director of Lourdes Charity Clinics including the clinic at Northside High School. He is a member and Strategus of the Lafayette Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. His medical practice, Rochon Cardiology, is located in Lafayette and Franklin, LA. His hobbies include fishing, cooking, and being a fan of LSU, ULL, New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans sports teams. He is a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and is married to SLCC Assistant Professor, Harmony Rochon, Ed.D.
