LAFAYETTE, La (KATC) — For more than 30 years LARC’s  Beads and More store in Lafayette has been supplying Acadianans with recycled Mardi Gras beads for a cause.

“We work with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and it provides them work year round,” said LARC job development manager Carthy Guillet.

Every day LARC services about 200 individuals with developmental disabilities. Staff members sort, organize, and stack donated beads by color and size.

Project Front Yard and I-49 Wrecker Service will be trailing Lafayette’s Crue of Rio parade for beads, but LARC says you can always donate your beads to Good Will.

Beads sell between $12-16 dollars a bag. LARC uses the proceeds to fund staffing, transportation, and upkeep of its facilities.

“Just like we have a job, they have a job,” Guillette said. “And when they are able to complete a task and do a very good job at it. they’re happy, I’m happy.”
