Love Our Schools: Northside High School

KATC is partnering with Love Our Schools” to help refurbish eight campuses in Lafayette Parish, and one of those schools is Northside High.

Band Director Alex Thomas has spent a large portion of his life at Northside.

“I was in the band here, was a drum major in the band, went on to college, came back and now I’m the band director at the school,” says Thomas, but even those who have only been at the school a few years say it will always feel like home.

“The locker room to us is like our first home, or our second home because the gym is the first home,” says Xavier Siner, a senior on the basketball team.

Like any home that’s well loved and lived in, Northside needs some TLC.

“Over the years I’ve seen that some things need some restoration,” says Nick Isadore, who’s also on the team.

This summer, volunteers with Love Our Schools will pour into Northside, touching up locker rooms, dining areas, landscaping and much more. Not only to make the school beautiful, but to give the students something to be proud of.

“We teach our athletes pride of ownership, responsibility and respect for everything we have and with the love our schools program coming to revitalize both our gym programs, its wonderful for our athletes,” says Amy DesOrmeaux, who coaches girls basketball.
