Two Acadiana organizations are asking for volunteers for their Love Our Schools initiative.

Those volunteers will join together Saturday, July 13 to revitalize eight pubic schools in Lafayette Parish:

  • Acadian Middle School
  • Alice N. BOucher Elementary School
  • Carencro Heights Elementary School
  • Carencro High School
  • J.W. Faulk Elementary School
  • Lafayette Middle School
  • LeRosen Preparatory School
  • Northside High School

Nearly 5,000 students will receive backpacks filled with school supplies, and over 600 teachers and staff members will be gifted with supplies.

Love Acadiana and the William C. Schumacher Family Foundation hope this initiative will improve education in the state.

“The 5,000 students, the 600 teachers and faculty and staff who are at these schools are going to be impacted, and we hope that there’s going to be a groundswell of support for the community and awareness around improving education and outcomes in Louisiana,” said Ryan Domengeaux, Chief Executive Officer for William C. Schumacher Family Foundation.

The principal of Lafayette Middle School tells KATC this initiative is also good for the kids’ self-esteem.

“We want them to know that not only the adults in the building think that they matter, that the whole community know that they matter and want to help them with their purpose in life,” said Tia Trahan.
