LAFAYETTE, La. — Police say the driver of a car hit by a train today sustained only minor injuries.
The Lafayette Police Department is investigating a traffic accident involving a train and a car. The accident occurred at approximately 12:57 p.m. on the 2300 block of SW Evangeline Thruway at an uncontrolled train crossing.
A train struck a car, sending the car into a ditch. The train also came to a stop. The car's driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Traffic in the area is flowing normally, though drivers should be aware of a distracted driving (due to the accident scene), police say.
