UPDATE: The Thruway is open following a fatal crash; Lafayette Police say seven vehicles were involved in a crash that left a teenager dead Friday.
Three of the vehicles involved were occupied and traveling on the Thruway, and four were parked in a private parking lot - and weren't occupied, police say.
One vehicle was traveling eastbound on Mudd Avenue and ran a red light; when it got into the intersection with the thruway it was hit by a second vehicle. That second vehicle then hit another vehicle that was northbound on the Thruway, police say.
A passenger in that first vehicle died from injuries sustained in the crash; he was 16 years old, police say. Three other people in that vehicle were transported to local hospitals where they were listed in stable condition on Friday, police say.
The people in the other two cars had minor injuries, police say.
The investigation is ongoing, but all lanes of travel in the area have been re-opened for traffic.

Lafayette Police are investigating a major vehicle crash near Mudd Avenue and the Northeast Evangeline Thruway.
One person has died as a result of the crash, according to a spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department. Investigators are on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
Northbound traffic on the NE Evangeline Thruway at Mudd Avenue is shut down and all traffic is being diverted to an alternate route. If you are traveling in the area expect delays.
