Pedestrian identified in fatal Lafayette crash

The Lafayette Police Department responded to the 100 block of PHI Dr., Lafayette on Monday, January 15 at approximately 4:19 p.m., regarding a pedestrian involved in a motor vehicle crash.

Traffic investigators were called out to the scene, where they began to investigate the incidents that led up to the crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle was pulling into a gate at the address when, for unknown reasons, the pedestrian stepped into the gate entrance and was struck. The pedestrian, identified as Richard Vidrine Sr., 71, of Washington, died at the scene from his injuries.

Lafayette Police say impairment is not suspected in the crash. The driver was transported to the Lafayette Police Department and submitted to a voluntary breath sample. The results of that sample were 0.000 g% BAC.

This crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
