Remember when adult coloring books were the hottest trend in self-care? Now, the newest trend in relaxing, meditative activities for adults is doing jigsaw puzzles.
At a time when more and more people are focusing on wellness and looking for ways to channel their anxiety and relieve stress, jigsaws offer the perfect way to let your mind wander while your hands, and one part of your brain, stay busy. Puzzles can be enjoyed as a solo activity, but they’re also fun to do with friends and family.
And if you’re a parent, it also just may be the one way you’ll be able to tear your kids away from a screen to spend time with you.
“People are totally inundated with screens and we’re starting to feel the effects and take stock,” Amanda Kahle, co-founder of the puzzle company Inner Piece, told HGTV recently. “We’re seeing this boom in the wellness and mindfulness spaces as a result. While those spaces offer many solutions that are cost-prohibitive or inaccessible to the average person, puzzles are this simple, fun way to embrace quiet time, whether you’re alone or with a crew.”
Inner Piece makes 500-piece jigsaw puzzles that sell for $30 apiece, and each is designed by a different artist. One dollar from each puzzle sold goes toward youth mindfulness programs.
