NEW IBERIA, La. - Audrey Ausberry was honored Wednesday by Richard Gallot, President of Grambling State University, and the Iberia Parish School Board for serving as an educator for sixty-three years.
She currently serves as an Instructional Supervisor in Iberia Parish for grades 3-6.
Ausberry attributes her longevity to her humble beginnings in which her family instilled the belief that education is important and that fortitude and determination produce success, stated Carey Laviolette, Superintendent of Iberia Parish. Ausberry exemplified these beliefs throughout her career, Laviolette added.
In addition to her educational career, Ausberry is active in the community. She is a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Loreauville where she has served as a pianist, member of the Sr. Jubilee Choir, and speaker. She has served on the Community Mental Health Board, Cancer Board, and Parks and Recreation Board. She is a lifetime member of the Sigma Theta Sorority and was a charter member of the Lafayette Alumnae Chapter and New Iberia Alumnae Chapter. Her emphasis is placed on securing scholarships for students who enter college.
Ausberry stated that she has enjoyed the journey, sees life as a game that is meant to win and strives for perfection because that is what God wants her to do.
