If you own a stand mixer, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got your cleaning techniques down pat. You want to put it away nice and clean after use so that you’ll be able to jump right into mixing the next time you need it!

The KitchenAid brand has some recommendations for cleaning a stand mixer and its attachments in a gentle way that won’t leave behind scratches and scrapes in the process.

According to a video from the KitchenAid Canada YouTube channel, a microfiber cloth will come in handy when cleaning a stand mixer’s base. For the bowl and attachments, good ol’ soap and warm water should do the trick, and some attachments can even go in the dishwasher.

But what about those pesky, harder-to-reach nooks and crannies? Cleaning coach Leslie Reichert told NBC’s “Today” that a toothbrush will help with the tougher underbelly areas of the stand mixer base. According to her advice, a good scrubbing with an old toothbrush should remove dried dough and more.

And for smaller areas where even the toothbrush just won’t go, Kitchn suggests trying a pipe cleaner or Q-tip. If the tools aren’t enough to get the job done, Kitchn points out that using a water and baking soda mixture to accompany those bristles could help.

Baking soda and water can come in handy quite a bit in the kitchen — especially when you’re needing to gently scrub surfaces without damaging them. Not only can the mixture be used when cleaning a mixer, but it can also get stainless steel pots and pans clean, too.

If you’re looking for tips on specific issues with your stand mixer, such as oil leaking from the mixer and more, the KitchenAid website is a great resource.

But for the most part, your trusty household cleaning tools — microfiber cloths, toothbrushes, baking soda — and some elbow grease will go a long way toward keeping the baking session on track.
