In honor of the 80th anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz,” four newborns at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania were dressed up as the main characters from the fantastical tale.
Sunday, Aug. 25 marked eight decades since the iconic MGM musical film premiered, and these adorable babies dressed as the Tin Man, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow are the cutest way to pay homage to the classic 1939 movie.
The Allegheny Health Network, of which the hospital is a member, took to Instagram to share photos of the babies in costumes resembling each of the characters:
“These AHN #munchkins are celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the #WizardOfOz at West Penn Hospital,” reads the caption. “Our hope for our patients is that the dreams that they dare to dream really do come true. Tell us, which Wizard of #Oz character is your favorite?”
How sweet! The photo now has more than 1,000 likes, and people everywhere are swooning over how cute these little infants looked in their mostly crocheted costumes.
“The Wizard of Oz” was nominated for six Academy Awards and won two, for Best Score and Best Original Song for “Over the Rainbow.” It has become one of the most celebrated films of all time. Throughout the years, generations of new fans have fallen in love with it.
It’s still going strong, even 80 years after its theatrical release, and we’re guessing that when these little munchkins are old enough, they’ll become fans of “The Wizard of Oz,” too!
These aren’t the only newborns to rock adorable costumes at a hospital. Check out these babies at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois that were dressed up in Halloween costumes in 2018:
