LAFAYETTE, La — The Kaliste Saloom road widening project has begun this week.
That construction work which began Monday morning August 19, may cause some delays for drivers near the intersection of Ambassador Caffery and Kaliste Saloom.
The existing two-lane asphalt road will be widened to a five-lane road with a two-way center turning lane. This will eventually increase traffic capacity for the developing area.
Susan Wood, who owns a pet grooming and boarding business just off of this stretch of Kaliste Saloom says she is ready for the project to begin because her customers have a hard time coming and going.
“Its just too hard to get here for some people. I get here real early but others they’re waiting and waiting and waiting to turn then they have to get out to go the other way,” says Wood.
She says she knows things will move slowly, but she's happy to be patient while workers widen the road.
“It’ll be worth the wait and the problems that we’re going to have with the traffic and all,”
This project is expected to last up to three years, set for completion in the summer of 2022.
