JENNINGS, La. — Power lines remain hanging in the middle of the streets in Jennings, while trees block many intersections.
Some families in Jeff Davis parish chose to ride out Hurricane Delta despite the mandatory evacuation. One woman says her family was spared during Laura, but not Delta.
"My husband passed away a year ago, he would have been devastated" Elizabeth Smith said as she observed the damage.
Smith stayed in her Jennings home with her great grandchildren.
"The noises kind of scared me, because sometimes it sounds like tornadoes" Smith said.
Before the storm was over, Smith found her 100 year old pecan tree uprooted onto a camper.
"It's heartbreaking, I cried when I came out and saw it. We survived Laura, 6 weeks later this comes, devastated us" Smith said.
Smith believes the camper saved her home from the trees full impact.
"The tree literally fell on the camper, and it saved my house" Smith said.
Although she is heartbroken the tree is down, Smith said she will plant a new one.
