When you think of holiday treats, pies and sugar cookies that look like Santa Claus probably come to mind first.
But when it’s Christmastime, who says the goodies have to be limited to dessert? Christmas morning can be just as special with breakfasts like spiced sugar buns and cinnamon pecan French toast bake.
Or, this year, you can take Krispy Kreme’s advice and start your morning with festive doughnuts from their new holiday doughnut collection! Available at participating locations now through Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, the collection includes doughnut adaptations of holiday classics like a Santa belly, a wrapped present and reindeer.
The Santa belly doughnut is a chocolate creme-filled doughnut inspired by the big guy himself. It features red, glittery sprinkles coating the entire doughnut and chocolate trim to make up his belt buckle and buttons.
The original glazed reindeer doughnut is dipped in chocolate icing, then adorned with pretzel antlers, candy eyes and an edible (and adorable!) red nose. The present doughnut is also an original glazed doughnut filled with the Krispy Kreme’s original Kreme. It is also festively decorated, this time with green icing and a bow to look just like a wrapped gift under the tree.
The three new doughnuts join more a basic Christmas treat, an original glazed doughnut dipped in simple white icing and topped with red, green and white sprinkles. You can get them individually or in a dozen to really spread some holiday cheer.
Krispy Kreme is also featuring a new Chocolate Glazed Wonderland collection this weekend. You can come in Dec. 6-8 to enjoy four special edition holiday-decorated doughnuts: chocolate glazed, chocolate glazed original filled with original Kreme, chocolate glazed filled with chocolate cake batter, and chocolate glazed original filled with double chocolate Kreme.
If you don’t have a Krispy Kreme near you, making your own doughnuts is actually not as hard as you may think. This recipe from The Kitchn calls for only two ingredients — prepared biscuit dough and oil. The hardest part is frying them in a cast-iron skillet! As a bonus, when you’re making doughnuts yourself, you can decorate them any way you wish, meaning they’re perfect for the holidays!
