You know Guy Fieri for his love of bleached blond spiky hair, diners, drive-ins and dives. But, as it turns out, the celebrity chef also has a penchant for tequila.
Last spring, Fieri and rock star Sammy Hagar announced they had teamed up to create their own brand of tequila: Santo Fino Blanco, a tequila made with 100% Blue Weber Agave. But it seems the Emmy Award-winning chef was just warming up, as Fieri recently announced he’ll also be opening a tequila-centric restaurant in Boston.
Guy’s Tequila Cocina promises to feature more than 100 different tequilas in the heart of Boston’s entertainment district. And we’re willing to bet Fieri’s own tequila will be behind the bar.
No word yet on when the tequila-and-taco joint will open, but it will be part of a luxury music hall being built by Big Night Entertainment Group that will bring live entertainment to The Hub on Causeway in downtown Boston. Fieri’s Cocina will be 6,000 square feet, with 185 seats and a big bar to stock all that tequila. The kitchen will serve up Latin street food.
While it will be his first restaurant in Beantown, Fieri is no stranger to Boston, as he’s featured restaurants there on his Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” Among some of the featured spots: Italian Express Pizzeria, Boston Burger Company and Yankee Lobster Company Restaurant. There’s also that time that Fieri drove former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino around in a fiery red Camarowhile filming the show.
“Boston has always been one of my favorite cities to hit for DDD… great people and even better food,” Fieri said in a statement about the opening of the restaurant. “So, to have the chance to start the party at Big Night Live with my Tequila Cocina, I couldn’t be more stoked!”
Boston, it sounds like, is equally stoked to have Fieri bring some Flavortown to the city.
“We knew that Guy Fieri was the perfect partner for this restaurant because not only is he an incredible chef, but he’s a fantastic entertainer who embodies the high-energy we are looking to create for those guests who will visit Big Night Live,” said BNEG Principal Ed Kane in the statement.
Celebratory margaritas, anyone?
