For those that haven’t seen the original “The Christmas Chronicles,” you can stream the 2018 film on Netflix now. The movie involves a brother and sister stowing away on Santa’s sleigh and ending up helping him on a Christmas Eve adventure. Russell’s Santa isn’t your typically jolly and plump St. Nick. Instead, this Kris Kringle has swagger, sarcasm and a good-looking beard to match his Christmas spirit.
Netflix’s summary of the sequel says it will focus on how “Kate Pierce, now a cynical teen, is unexpectedly reunited with Santa Claus when a mysterious troublemaker threatens to cancel Christmas … forever.”
That mysterious character is called “the Belsnickel,” who will be played by “Deadpool 2’s” Julian Dennison. Another new character will be Jack, played by Jahzir Bruno.
Kate Pierce will be played again by Darby Camp. Also returning are Judah Lewis as Teddy, Kate’s brother, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley as the kids’ mom.
Hawn’s son Oliver Hudson played Kate and Teddy’s late father in the first film but is not listed on the current “The Christmas Chronicles 2” IMDB cast list.
The new film is directed and co-written by Chris Columbus, who is known for directing “Home Alone,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” and the first two “Harry Potter” films.
Here’s a trailer for the first film from the official website, showing the irreverence of Russell’s version of Santa Claus.

The little bit we saw of Hawn as Mrs. Claus in the first movie makes us think she will keep Santa Claus on his jingle toes in the second film.
And perhaps this is the case in real life, too? Russell, 68, and Hawn, 74, have known each other since the 1960s, when they starred in the film “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band” (1968) together. They have beenromantically linked since 1984’s “Swing Shift.” You may recall them starring together in 1987’s iconic romantic comedy “Overboard,” which was the last time they shared significant screen time together.
In 2017, the two even received a dual star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Are you excited to see the further “Christmas Chronicles” with this star couple?
