Frank Breaux of Erath and his wife Amanda have been longtime supporters of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
“We’ve been donating to St. Jude for at least 20 years,” says Breaux. “Maybe 22, ever since my and I got married, maybe even when we met.”
A dream home ticket, perhaps even an early bird ticket purchase, is a very simple way to make a difference in the life of a child battling a catastrophic disease.
Breaux says making the donation is all about helping the children.
“They’re suffering, living life one day at a time,” says Breaux. “When you think about it you have a small token, you can help these kids.”
Last year, at about this time, Frank and his wife became the proud owners of a wonderful Gator Tail Boat and Trailer package. They were on their way back from Biloxi when the received the phone call.
“He said, ‘man you just won a boat.’ I said ‘what are you talking about a boat? I didn’t register for a boat.’ The St. Jude Dream Home. You just won a boat. I’m like, there’s no way.”
But, yes way! Breaux was, in fact, a winner. And his boat has already made a few duck hunts since Breaux took ownership.
The Breauxs say they always buy an early bird ticket. And while last year it paid off in a prize, Frank is quick to remind us that it’s really about the bigger picture. Helping kids and families, many of them our own, receive a little hope.
“You’re doing it for a good cause,” he says. “It’s not about winning a boat or a house, it’s about helping somebody else who needs it.”
