With the start of Spring, Acadiana Animal Aid and Startlette joined GMA on Monday to help promote the value of fostering at your local shelter.
Acadiana Animal Aid Director Heidi Paterson says that shelters are often in need of fosters during the springtime due to an increased number of births. Those rescued puppies and kittens will need loving homes and fostering is an important part of the process.
Paterson says fostering can last anywhere from two to four weeks. The more people that step forward to participate in the Animal Aid foster program will allow the shelter to continue to rescue and adopt out animals.
The program also allows the animals to experience life in a home setting rather than the seclusion of a shelter, making them more adoptable. Paterson also says that families can experience the value of pet ownership through fostering and determine if they are ready to make the commitment to adopt.
Katie Lopez got lots of love from shelter pup Starlette. While Starlette is already in the process of being adopted, there are others just like her who are in need of fosters and a great home.
