Jeaux's is housed in a building on Main Street in St. Martinville that holds many memories for the St. Martin Parish community and especially for the restaurant's owner.

"My earliest memories of this place, is Mitchell's drive-in. We'd come get hamburgers here," says Marcus Cormier, who remembers his parents taking over the building shortly thereafter. "I remember tearing down the wall... I might have been in the seventh grade," he adds.

His family had an almost thirty-year run, owning a restaurant in the space. Shortly after they retired, Marcus needed a career shift and was drawn back to the same building.

"I called my mom, told her I got laid off, and she asked me what I was going to do. I told her I was going to open a restaurant again," he says.

This was the birth of Jeaux's, now a St. Martinville staple for plate lunches and soul food.

"I love where I'm at and I love what I'm doing," says Cormier. "I wake up happy every morning. Its amazing when you wake up and do something that you love."

Marcus has big plans and bigger dreams for the restaurant but he knows that this first location will always be home.

"I'm always going to keep my roots. You can't forget where you started from. You can't,"
