Parenting: Keeping Germs at bay

With most kids back in the classroom, the topic of germs has probably come up more than once in your household.

Dr. Sara Doguet, family medicine with our Lady of Lourdes, said parents know the obvious:
Washing hands, taking off shoes at the door, and changing clothes as soon as you get home.

Dr. Doguet said some other things that parents can do to keep everyone protected, not just from Covid-19, but other viruses is to wear the same shoes to school every day.

"Just bring their kids to school in one pair of shoes all of the time as opposed to 'let's dress you up' and you have a different shoe everyday," Dr. Doguet suggested. "That way we can just have one shoe that they are using and we disinfect them routinely. Right after kids are getting home, get them bathed, showered, and into clean set of clothes as soon as they get home."

Dr Doguet also suggested sanitizing that one pair of shoes several times a week. She said you can throw them in the wash or disinfect them with an alcohol solution.
